Role Overview

As an Embedded Systems Software Engineer at Aetherflux, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and testing embedded software solutions for our satellite constellation. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of software with novel payloads and satellite hardware components, contributing to the overall success of our projects. Your expertise in embedded systems development and real-time software will be instrumental in integrating multi-kilowatt class laser payloads with low-earth-orbit satellites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Embedded Software Development: Design and implement embedded software for real-time systems, considering factors such as performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Performance Optimization: Optimize software performance through efficient coding practices and algorithm design, ensuring that our products meet high standards of quality and efficiency.
  • Testing and Debugging: Conduct thorough testing and debugging of embedded software to identify and resolve issues, maintaining the integrity and functionality of the systems.
  • Hardware Integration: Collaborate closely with hardware engineers to align software development with hardware specifications, enabling seamless integration and functionality at the system level.
  • Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in embedded systems development to drive innovation within the team.
  • Laser Payload Integration: Integrate multi-kilowatt class laser payloads with low-earth-orbit satellites, requiring expertise in embedded systems development and real-time software.

Job requirements

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in embedded systems development, including real-time operating systems and low-level programming.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, and assembly language for embedded systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex software and hardware interactions.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a collaborative approach to working across disciplines and functions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with FPGA programming and embedded Linux or real-time operating systems (RTOS) for mission-critical applications.
  • Familiarity with satellite systems, space missions, or aerospace industry experience.
  • Knowledge of hardware-software integration, particularly in the context of high-power laser systems.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git), development frameworks, and debugging tools.
  • Understanding of space qualification standards and environmental testing protocols.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with performance profiling and optimization tools.
